Claude Code skills
1. jev-seo
Best for a complete audit report you can send · Claude Code skill · open source (MIT) · github.com/AgriciDaniel/jev-seo
Our pick, and the engine this site is built on. Type /jev-seo with a homepage URL and Claude crawls the site (60 pages by default, sitemap and robots.txt included, JavaScript pages rendered), runs 52 checks tied to Google Search Central, measures Core Web Vitals, has every page rated for intent, helpfulness, trust and how quotable it is for AI answers, and ranks each fix by impact and effort. Claude then checks the evidence and writes the executive summary.
With a DataForSEO account (about 0.30 USD a site), the same report adds rankings, keywords within reach, competitors, backlinks, AI Overview citations and mentions in AI answers. Everything lands in a designed PDF, an Excel tracker and Markdown, built from one audit file.
Set-up steps are in how to use Claude for SEO audits, and a finished report is on the example page. Not to be confused with the Rust CLI of the same name: two tools called jev-seo.
Cost: free and open source; the content review costs about one US cent per 60 pages, rankings about 0.30 USD a site. Watch out for: it is young (first released in September 2026) with a much smaller community than Claude SEO. The content review needs a TypeSafe API key, rankings need your own DataForSEO account, and on Windows it runs under WSL. The Jev SEO web app runs the same engine with nothing to install.
2. Claude SEO
Best for a wide range of specialist checks · Claude Code plugin · open source (MIT) · github.com/AgriciDaniel/claude-seo
One of the two most-installed SEO skills for Claude, from the same developer as jev-seo. It packs 26 sub-skills and 19 agents covering technical SEO, E-E-A-T, schema, local SEO, e-commerce, hreflang, backlinks from Moz, Bing and Common Crawl, and optimisation for AI search, and writes a long PDF report alongside Markdown and JSON.
Nine optional extensions connect Ahrefs, DataForSEO, SE Ranking, Firecrawl, Bing Webmaster Tools and others when you have those accounts.
Cost: free; you pay for your Claude usage and any extension accounts. Watch out for: it analyses the URLs it fetches rather than crawling a whole site, and its own README points to Screaming Frog for deeper crawls. Without Google credentials, Core Web Vitals are lab estimates, and several agents run on Opus, so a full run uses more of your Claude allowance.
3. Marketing Skills (seo-audit)
Best lightweight audit checklist · Agent skills · open source (MIT) · github.com/coreyhaines31/marketingskills
Corey Haines' collection of marketing skills. Its seo-audit skill, the other most-installed SEO skill, is a thorough framework that tells Claude what to check, in what order, and how to write up an action plan. A separate ai-seo skill covers AI search.
Cost: free. Watch out for: it is guidance, not a crawler. Claude fetches pages one at a time with whatever tools it has, and the skill itself notes that plain fetches miss structured data added by JavaScript. Results stay in the chat rather than in a report file.
4. GEO SEO Claude
Best for a focus on AI search · Claude Code skill · open source (MIT) · github.com/zubair-trabzada/geo-seo-claude
Built around generative engine optimisation: how quotable your pages are for AI answers, which AI crawlers your robots.txt lets in, llms.txt, brand mentions and schema, with the usual technical checks alongside.
Cost: free. Watch out for: no speed, ranking or backlink data, and on Windows it needs Git Bash.
MCP servers for SEO data
5. Ahrefs MCP
Best for backlink and keyword data, if you already pay for Ahrefs · Official MCP server · Claude connector · claude.com/connectors/ahrefs
Ahrefs' own server, listed in Claude's connectors directory, brings its keyword, backlink, rank tracking and site audit data into a Claude conversation: 61 tools in all.
Cost: an Ahrefs plan from Lite ($129 a month); Brand Radar for AI visibility is an add-on. Watch out for: API units go quickly. Each call costs at least 50 of Lite's 200,000 monthly units, and results are capped at 100 rows. It supplies data; the audit logic is up to you and Claude.
6. Semrush MCP
Best if your team already works in Semrush · Official MCP server · Claude connector · claude.com/connectors/semrush
Semrush's connector gives Claude 14 tools, from keyword, backlink and competitor research to position tracking, site audit results and traffic estimates.
Cost: a Semrush plan that includes API units; Semrush One Starter lists at $199 a month. Watch out for: project data such as position tracking and Site Audit is read-only, so Claude can report on it but not change it.
7. SE Ranking MCP
Best for pay-as-you-go data with AI visibility tracking · Official MCP server · seranking.com/api/mcp
Covers SE Ranking's data API (keywords, backlinks, results pages), its project data (rank tracking, audits, competitors), local SEO, and SE Visible for tracking how you appear in AI search. SE Ranking also publishes its own SEO skills for Claude.
Cost: the Core plan ($129 a month) or Growth, or the data API pay-as-you-go from a $50 deposit. Watch out for: not every API endpoint is exposed through MCP, and API keys carry full account access, so keep them out of shared configs.
8. DataForSEO MCP
Best for raw data on a pay-as-you-go budget · Official MCP server · open source (Apache-2.0) · github.com/dataforseo/mcp-server-typescript
Gives Claude every DataForSEO API through four generic tools: results pages, keywords, rankings, backlinks, on-page crawling, Lighthouse and mentions in AI answers. It runs locally or as a hosted server, and it is the data source jev-seo uses for rankings.
Cost: pay per call, with a $50 minimum top-up. Watch out for: you get raw API responses with no audit logic on top. Its help pages disagree on some setup details, so follow the GitHub README.
9. Screaming Frog SEO Spider MCP
Best for deep crawls of large sites · Built into SEO Spider 24+ · Claude Desktop · www.screamingfrog.co.uk/guides/mcp-server
Since version 24 (May 2026) the SEO Spider desktop crawler includes an MCP server, so Claude can start, pause and resume crawls, read reports and bulk exports, and look at links and screenshots. For sites in the tens of thousands of pages, nothing else here comes close.
Cost: a paid SEO Spider licence ($279 a year). Watch out for: it connects to Claude Desktop through an extension, and the guide doesn't cover Claude Code. Not every feature is available yet, and large crawl outputs can overflow Claude's context.
10. Search Console MCP (mcp-gsc)
Best for your own Google data, free · Community MCP server · open source (MIT) · github.com/AminForou/mcp-gsc
Connects Claude to your Google Search Console: search analytics, URL inspection, indexing issues and sitemaps. Pair it with an audit and Claude can tell you which flagged pages actually get impressions.
Cost: free; you set up a Google Cloud project for access. Watch out for: it runs locally, so it works in Claude Code and Claude Desktop but not on claude.ai. Results are capped at 500 rows, Search Console data lags two to three days, and Google doesn't publish an official equivalent.
11. Chrome DevTools MCP
Best for debugging one page's speed, free · MCP server from the Chrome DevTools team · open source · github.com/ChromeDevTools/chrome-devtools-mcp
Lets Claude drive a real Chrome: record performance traces with insights, and run Lighthouse for SEO, accessibility and best practices.
Cost: free. Watch out for: it works on one page at a time rather than crawling, its Lighthouse tool leaves out the performance category, and by default it sends trace URLs to Chrome's UX Report.
Claude on its own
With nothing added, Claude can search the web on every plan, fetch a page you give it, read uploaded files (a Search Console or crawler export works well) and create PDF and Excel files. On claude.ai it can also use remote connectors such as Ahrefs and Semrush from Claude's connectors directory.
What it can't do alone is crawl a whole site, measure Core Web Vitals, or supply search volumes, rankings and backlinks. claude.ai can't run local MCP servers either, so Search Console MCP and Screaming Frog need Claude Code or Claude Desktop. Claude alone is good for reviewing one page or one export; it isn't an audit.
Also worth a look
- Web Quality Skills by Addy Osmani: SEO and Core Web Vitals skills that run Lighthouse when Chrome DevTools MCP is connected.
- Firecrawl MCP: turns pages into clean text for Claude. The keyless hosted tier covers scraping and search; crawling a whole site needs an API key.
How to choose
- You need a report for a client or a boss: jev-seo, or the Jev SEO web app if you'd rather not install anything.
- You want many specialist checks inside Claude Code, such as local, e-commerce or hreflang: Claude SEO.
- You already pay for Ahrefs, Semrush or SE Ranking: add its MCP server so Claude can pull keyword and backlink data while you work.
- You want search data without a subscription: DataForSEO, pay as you go.
- Your site has tens of thousands of pages: Screaming Frog for the crawl.
- Whatever else you pick: Search Console MCP is free and lets Claude see your real clicks and impressions.
They combine well. An audit skill, one data server and Search Console together are a solid setup for most sites.
Common questions
What is the best Claude SEO tool?
It depends on the job. For a complete audit you can hand over as a PDF, jev-seo. For the widest set of specialist checks inside Claude Code, Claude SEO. For keyword and backlink data, the MCP server of the SEO platform you already pay for.
Does Anthropic make an SEO tool?
No. Anthropic makes Claude; the SEO tools come from SEO vendors and open-source developers. Ahrefs and Semrush publish official connectors that are listed in Claude's connectors directory.
Can Claude do keyword research?
Only with a data source. Claude's own knowledge has no search volumes or difficulty scores, so connect Ahrefs, Semrush, SE Ranking or DataForSEO, or run jev-seo with rankings turned on.
Are these tools free?
The open-source skills are free; you pay for your Claude usage and any data APIs they call. The vendor MCP servers need a paid plan with that vendor, except Search Console MCP and Chrome DevTools MCP, which are free.
